Where did you grow up and where do you call home now?

Boston, Massachusetts. Ventura, CA is currently home.

How did you get started in the surf film industry?

I started a documentary film company in 2014 with a friend that I'd met during my time as a creative director in ad agencies. As a long-time surfer and lover of nature and the ocean, I was very interested in people who make their lives in and around the ocean.

What’s different about directing a surf film than a more mainstream film?

There's so much more potential for daily changes and bigger risks, since the ocean calls the shots.

What inspired you to make Lucky Star?

Jen Smith is one of the best surfers out there. I saw an opportunity to share her unbelievable style and personality with the world.

How did you come to meet the surfers in the film?

I've known Jen for many years through surfing and friendship.

What do you hope the audience takes away from the film?

A glimpse into the stoke, spirit and style of Jen Smith shredding Malibu.
