Meet the Artist Tim Reckel

Tim Reckel is an Artist, Fabricator and Woodworker living and working in Rockaway. He is the co-owner and designer of Revamp RBNY. Tim has a BFA with a painting concentration from William Paterson University and a decade of experience designing and creating sets, props and special effects for the stage and screen.

How did you get started as an artist?

My mother was always trying to find her creative niche and took a class in or tried nearly every medium available, I was often there right alongside her trying to find my own.

How does spending time in nature, especially by the ocean, contribute to your mental well-being and creative process?

I’m never happier or more at peace than when my cell phone just straight up doesn’t work. I’m inspired by the color and natural textures in the world around me.

As an exhibiting artist at the 10th Annual Women's Surf Film Festival, what themes or messages do you aim to convey through your artwork?

The joy and peacefulness at the end of a good beach day.

How have the Rockaways and New York City influenced your artistic vision and connection to the surfing community?

The creative force in Rockaway has not only made me dust off my paint brushes, but also forced me into the water more often.

When you're not creating, what do you like to do for fun?

Create other stuff.

Where can we see more of your art?

In the future, I’m currently assembling a body of work in hopes to begin showing again, but currently co-own and design for @revamprbny. For more fine art and personal life checkout @TRecksCreative.
